The Gap Between Learning ACT and Using It
ACT has strong research support. Most therapists know that. The problem isn’t awareness — it’s translation.
Concepts like psychological flexibility, defusion, and committed action can feel clear in a training manual and slippery in an actual session. When a client is in distress, it’s hard to know which ACT process to draw on, how to introduce it without sounding scripted, and whether it’s actually landing.
This training is designed to close that gap.
A Training Built Around Clinical Application
This is not a lecture on ACT theory. It’s a structured session training that moves from conceptual grounding to real clinical use — with case examples, applied discussion, and techniques you can bring into session the following week.
Led by Joel Wallis, LCSW, this session is designed for therapists who want to integrate ACT more confidently, whether you’re new to the model or looking to sharpen what you already know.
What You Will Learn
During this training, participants will learn how to:
• Help clients respond differently to difficult thoughts and emotions
• Reduce experiential avoidance in therapy work
• Increase psychological flexibility
• Clarify client values and support committed action
• Apply ACT processes with individuals, couples, and families
Through case examples and applied discussion, therapists will gain practical strategies they can integrate directly into their sessions.
A Practical Training Designed for Real Clinical Work
This continuing education course focuses on both the foundations and practical applications of ACT.
Led by Joel Wallis, LCSW, this training combines conceptual understanding with real clinical examples to help therapists confidently integrate ACT strategies into their work with individuals, couples, and families.
Participants will leave with tools they can begin using immediately in their clinical practice.

Why ACT?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) focuses on helping clients build psychological flexibility — the ability to respond to difficult thoughts and emotions while still moving toward what matters most. Rather than trying to eliminate uncomfortable experiences, ACT helps clients develop a different relationship with them. This approach allows therapists to support clients in living according to their values, reducing avoidance patterns, increasing emotional resilience, and creating meaningful behavioral change. As a result, ACT has become one of the most widely used evidence-based therapies in modern clinical practice.
